Donald Trump Red Power Tie

I’ve always been fascinated by business psychology - not necessarily the behavioral marketing end of it - but the mind games that seem to give some a competitive edge - like the firm handshake or control posturing in the board room by mirroring behaviors, etc.

A few years ago, I read an interview with Donald Trump - the guy famous for outwitting and getting what he wants - he stated that his secret advantage is that he always wears a fine silk red tie when he’s closing a deal – he claimed that he was certain that the red tie gave him a distinct psychological advantage over whomever he was convincing and it amazed him what he could get away with when he wore the color red as opposed to any other color.

Well, if it was working for the Donald – I had to try it. That weekend I bought a quality red silk tie and broke it out a couple weeks later with a tough annual-buy client – sure enough I got everything I wanted PLUS a remote schedule that I was certain wasn’t going to jive – but I’ll be damned – it worked!

From then on I’ve worn that tie – and a couple duplicates – to every important pitch and have done tremendously well – I’ve also noticed that co-workers and my managers treat me with a little more appreciation when wearing a red tie. There have been studies that have proven that the color red stimulates respect and adoration – so try it out and let me know how it worked for you!
